No Needle Injectors

injection \In*jec"tion\, n. [L. injectio : cf.F. injection.] 1. The act of injecting or throwing in; -- applied particularly to the forcible throwing in of a liquid, or a["e]riform body, by means of a syringe, pump, etc.
2. That which is injected; especially, a liquid medicine thrown into a cavity of the body by a syringe or pipe; a clyster; an enema. --Mayne.
3. (Anat.) (a) The act or process of filling vessels, cavities, or tissues with a fluid or other substance. (b) A specimen prepared by injection.

At the recent DermaFest 1999, an interesting product was introduced which demonstrated a no needle injection of local anesthetics. This type of pneumatic delivery has been in use in Third World countries and the military for quite some time. What is " new " here is that the injectors are disposable.

It is imperative that micropigmentation practitioners check with their local state boards of health or similar body to be sure that this method is legal in their state. Furthermore, practitioners need to obtain written approval from their malpractice carrier for this anesthetic procedure.

Based upon the definition of injection, it would appear that this method would fall under the preview of licensed doctors of medicine only.
