3. Fall Xpo rescheduled : We have re-scheduled Xpo® to Spring of 2007 due to weather and travel concerns, especially at our East Coast locations. The impact of hurricane Katrina was that all the New Orleans "gamblers" headed north to casinos in Mississippi and nearby Memphis, our desired location, and prices for hotel rooms skyrocketed. The overwhelming success of "Spring Fling" held in Phoenix, Arizona in April also shaped our decisions. The Academy will be present at your favorite cosmetology and esthetic shows too. Workshops and demonstrations will take center stage. Stay in touch for up-to-the minute information for dates and places.

4. Spring Fling Wrap-up: Over 120 women flocked to Phoenix from April 28-May 1 from across the nation to enjoy two days of workshops. Many took their Board Exams on Day 3. There was something for everyone at Spring Fling which included the following topics and instructors:

Dr. Kristanne Matzek:"dry needling" and paramedical techniques. Dr. John Kercheval: Blood Born Pathogens. Elli Edgar and Heather Hamil: Areola Techniques. Helen Snow: "Eyebrow Magic" for hairstrokes.
Karla Kwist: Tips to handle droopy eyelids. Dyanna Yost taught Powerful Portfolios.
Rebecca Cordiano: Lip Augmentation. Joyce Cirasuola: Color Theory and Lip Technique. Dr. Linda Dixon: Pain Control Class with Certificate and Large screen TV demos on all procedures.

felicia&stephanie Felicia Philpot and Stephanie Drumright demonstrated the "Eyeshadow-to-the-Brow" technique on live models. They also offered their DVD for $99 on the same technique. For pale "highlighting colors" you must use a special needle for the handtool called the Double Geo. This prevents any darkening or discoloration common when using a machine and pigments with a lot of titanium dioxide white. Their paletee includes delicate "mists" of the colors green, blue, mauve, plum, gold and silver. For darker "shadows" you can use a machine.

They received an enthusiastic welcome from the scores of women who took their class. Felicia is a veteran micropigmentation professional and with Stephanie's God-given talent as a sculptor and artist, DVD which shows you how to do their technique step-by-step. Also included in the $99 is a poster with eyeshadow designs, an informed consent and recipes for colors. Toll free 888/664-9990 for order info.

5. SAAM Exam: Your students can receive a Certificate from the Academy at the completion of their training. For $100 they will eligible to take the STUDENT AMERICAN ACADEMY OF MICROPIGMENTATION 100 Basic Questions in Micropigmentation Exam and mail it to the Academy for grading. The exams will be graded in the Goldsboro office and a Certificate of Completion will be sent to the student for display in a prominent place as they begin their profession of micropigmentation. In addition, the student will receive a year's membership in the Academy. The $100 includes Exam, Certificate, Website listing and referrals, savings on attending any events and membership in the Academy for a year. After one year, they will be eligible for the Board Certification Exam. Certification by the Academy is valuable and helps your students.

6. Put Your Business Card on Website: Now you can display your business card on the Academy website for just $99/year. The best business card will get a FREE year's placement on the website. Email a jpeg image of your business card to AcademyBusCard for posting on the website.

7. Insurance ALERT: Informed Consent. In the event a client makes a claim against you, your insurance policy is null and void if you do not have a signed informed consent form. Photographs are helpful but not mandatory. Marine Insurance specialist Mary Lynn Blaesser's article in an upcoming Micronews on "Everything You Should Know About Insurance" will cover topics we need to know. "Remember, the whole goal of an insurance company is to NOT have to pay out money", says Mary Lynne. So pay attention to your records. If you needs a good informed consent model, contact the Academy and get our CD with Forms.

8. Board Certification: The value of Board Certification when you get into a jam may be more than you think. There are Board Certification Centers across the United States including New Jersey, Florida, Arizona, California and Hawaii. Fill out the application today if you are not already certified. Click here.

9. Pre-Op Photographs: Please get pre-op and immediate post-op and healed photographs of each case. Along with an informed consent, these pictures are truly worth a thousand words. It doesn't matter if you are working on friends and family. Exercise the same degree of professionalism and caution.

10. Pigment Removal: Do not use any type of chemical "acids" for pigment removal. Do not use glycolic acid as taught by several instructors. Ask what is in any "tattoo removal" product and do not use it unless they tell you everything that it contains. Scars are common after acid removal attempts and it is illegal in most states to perform tattoo removal unless you're a doctor. However, you can open the skin with dry needles and "rub in" a neutral solution or pigment to soften an undesired area. Email Dr. Dixon for any questions on how to approach color that needs to be softened. Note: An illegal activity cannot be insured so please check your State's laws.

11. Micronews® Fall Edition is at the publisher now and if you are an Academy Member you will receive it in the next 4-6 weeks. Only active members of the Academy will receive Micronews®. If you need to renew your membership in the Academy go to: http://www.micropigmentation.org/ckshop.php?category=11

12. Academy Awareness Campaign : Soon you will see the Academy's new offer to potential members and students in industry magazines. The news will be out and professionals will know they have a partner in permanent makeup. Also, the campaign will introduce them to Academy Certified Instructors who meet or exceed the highest standards in the industry for training.

Warmly,

Linda H Dixon, MD
