Safety Programs

Objectives Of The Program Include:

(1) To identify role in Hazardous Wastes, HIV, and Accidents.

(2) To review Infection Control and OSHA Requirements.

(3) To review Risk Management and Occurrence Reporting.

(4) To review in Quality Assessment and Quality Improvement.

(5) To review Fire Safety Procedure and demonstrate competency in Fire Extinguisher Practice.

(6) To discuss Client Confidentiality.

(7) To review medication errors and proper drug administrative protocols.

(8) To review Basic Cardiac Life Support Protocols.

SAFETY COMMITTEE

OBJECTIVE

To have offices and institutions equipped, operated, and maintained as so to provide a safe and healthful environment for patients, visitors, and employees.

ORGANIZATION AND COMPOSITION

The membership of the safety committee shall be multidisciplinary with representation from key services of the Academy.

The safety director and all members of the safety committee are appointed by the President of the Academy.

MEETINGS

The safety committee shall meet at least annually or at any time that an urgent situation warrants a meeting.

MINUTES AND REPORTS

Minutes of all meetings shall be maintained and shall include the following:

- Name of committee

- Date and duration of the meeting

- Names of committee members (present & absent) and guest

- Documentation that previous minutes were read and approved

- Minutes shall include an in depth discussion of identified patient, visitor or employee accident causes. The unsafe acts or unsafe conditions which have contributed to the injuries shall be discussed and documented in the minutes.

- Minutes are to be signed by the committee chairman

Reports of the committee's activities and recommendations shall be made to the appropriate persons.

FUNCTIONS

1. Develop a system for providing a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.

2. Promote and maintain an ongoing Academy wide hazardous surveillance program.

3. Review and evaluate the effectiveness of the safety program at least annually with an with an annual report to the Board of Directors.

4. Set up an Incident Reporting System - Investigate, then evaluate all incidents reported and document review of such reports and actions taken.

5. Establish liaison and exchange of information with infection control committee and other

6. Include safety-related information in orientation of new and continuing education.

7. Familiarize Academy members with applicable safety regulations.

8. Maintain a reference library.

 

DUTIES OF SAFETY COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The safety committee member should:

1. Actively participate in all committee functions.

2. Appoint an alternate committee member for the department, to attend committee meetings and to represent the department head in his absence.

3. Discuss the findings of the committee, as appropriate, with other Academy members in their respective departments.
